My name is Jasmin Kemppinen, and I’m a Finnish painter and plant scientist.

​

I received my PhD in plant biology from the University of Helsinki in July 2026. My doctoral research focused on plant-microbe interactions, with a particular interest in the role of stomata in plant immunity and their contribution to plant defence. You can read my thesis here.

In addition to my academic career I’ve expanded my passion for plants to art and aesthetics. Delving into the world of botanical illustrations in 2015, I soon found out the most captivating way to learn more about plants and their anatomy, morphology and adaptations is through painting.

​

I think that one of the best aspects of life is the excitement we get by observing nature. By combining science and art I aspire to share that sense of wonder, and most importantly, spread the appreciation for plant life.
